Pets & Chocolate DON'T Mix!

It's fairly common knowledge that chocolate is not the best for our pets, but have you ever wondered why this is so? We decode the dangers of chocolate when it comes to our beloved dogs and cats below. Keep reading through to the end to learn about some of the fun events and specials we will be having at both The Hip Hound and Java Hound!

Why is chocolate toxic to our pets?

Chocolate is made up of caffeine and theobromine, which are naturally occurring stimulants. Stimulants activate your central nervous system and the hearth, and then relax certain muscles within the body. Dogs will digest the chocolate so slow, that leaving any amount of stimulant within their bloodstream will become toxic to the dog's system. So if you do decide to bring home some chocolate for your special someone, please be extremely careful to keep in in a container that is far out of reach of your pets.

Keep in mind, the darker the chocolate, the higher the caffeine content and therefore the more toxic it will be to your pet. This also means that even small amounts can be dangerous, so please never take your pet ingesting chocolate lightly!

*A note on cats: Cats should be kept away from chocolate as well. However, due to cats picky nature, they are less likely to find any interest in sweet human treats.

This weekend in the shop we have a couple of fun events and specials happening!

Matt and Drew, at the Java Hound, will be serving Valentine's inspired cookies and cupcakes from Marsee Baking, a delicious Raspberry White Chocolate Mocha and their drip coffee is filled with notes of decadent fudge.

In the shop, we will have fun pupcakes and decorated bones from Twinkies Tarts de Jour.

Join us on Saturday the 13th for a Bullentine's Pawty with the NW Bulldog Rescue from 12-3pm & bring your pups in for a photo at the Doggie Kissing Booth put on by Kolu Photography from 1-5pm!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

XOXO,

Theo, Bentley and the Hip Hound Team
